In the new Erasmus program generation, environmentally friendly practices are promoted by encouraging the use of sustainable means of transport for mobility, among other things
Students who go abroad in Europe via Erasmus from the 2021 Erasmus project (mobility from summer semester 2022) will therefore receive a top-up amount in addition to individual support for environmentally friendly travel.
How much are the top-ups/grants for green travel?
Students receive a one-off grant for individual support of 50 euros and, if applicable, additional individual support for travel days of up to 4 days for a return trip.
What does environmentally friendly or green travel mean?
Environmentally friendly travel is defined as travel where low-emission means of transport such as bus, train or carpooling are used for the majority of the journey.
Particularly sustainable forms of travel, i.e. students who mainly travel to the host university on foot (hiking) or by bicycle, are also eligible for a one-off grant of 50 euros.
Combined trips that are partly made by plane cannot be funded.
How is the additional payment calculated?
The travel days (up to 4) should be justified or documented using tickets if possible. In addition, this must be done by means of a declaration on the participants' honor. The declaration on the participants' honor should include the number of travel days.
The additional payment (top-up and possibly up to four days of travel) will be made at the end of the study abroad program.
Prerequisite for this additional funding:
- Informal application with a description of the project (including a list of additional costs)
- Proof and self-declaration of the trip taken (type of travel, reference to environmental friendliness)
However, this particularly sustainable form of travel should not consume more CO2 in a hidden way, e.g. because the luggage is sent separately by plane or the return journey is by plane. The student should therefore make it clear that the aspect of environmentally friendly travel is a particular focus of the project.
Funding will be granted as soon as the study abroad program has begun and proof and a declaration of honor regarding the trip have been provided.
