Your application

In order to be able to study or conduct research at a non-European partner university as part of an exchange program, you as a Clausthal University of Technology student or doctoral candidate must generally complete a two-stage application process:

The first stage involves nomination by the Clausthal International Center (IZC), the second stage is your direct application to the potential host university.

To apply for a nomination, please send the following documents by e-mail to the IZC's Outgoing Mobility Coordinator (see right-hand column for contact details):

  • 1 letter of motivation in English at least 1 DIN A4 page in length
    • Please explain why you would like to go to the country or university in question and what advantages you see for yourself or your studies.
  • 2 letters of recommendation - you can find a template here
    • At least one of them must be from a professor who has a subject-related connection to your degree program.
    • The second letter of recommendation may also come from a research assistant at an institute of Clausthal University of Technology who holds a doctorate.
    • Letters of recommendation from relatives are not accepted.
  • DAAD language certificate for English or language certificate for the respective language of instruction
    • You can have your English language skills checked at the Language Center of the IZC. Please contact Ms. Jessica Schulze-Bentrop (e-mail: jessica.schulze-bentrop@tu-clausthal.de) or Dr. Hakan Gür (hakan.guer@tu-clausthal.de) and register with this document for the language test.
    • If the potential host university does not require a language certificate in English, but in Spanish or Portuguese, for example, please contact the IZC Outgoing Mobility Coordinator (see right-hand column for contact details) in good time, who will then check the possibility of a language certificate in another language at the Language Center for you.
  • Current transcript of records - you can generate this in your Stud.IP account.
    • The current unweighted average grade must be at least 2.5 or better.

The deadline for submitting application documents for nomination by the IZC varies depending on the host country and host university. Nominations for study visits must always be communicated to the partner university by the Clausthal International Center. Without a nomination, you will not be accepted as an exchange student by the partner university and may have to pay tuition fees.

Please send your nomination at least 14 days before the deadline set by the partner university to ensure that any necessary changes etc. can still be made and that the nomination can be sent to the partner university on time.
