Please look for accommodation in Clausthal as early as possible, as furnished accommodation in particular is not always available immediately. If possible, you should submit your request three months before your planned start of stay. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to find suitable accommodation for you, especially in student residences.

There are various options for living in Clausthal. You can apply for a room in one of the student residences or you can look for accommodation in a private housing market.

Student halls of residence
The Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen is responsible for allocating places in halls of residence. If you are interested, you must apply there directly.

The cost of a room in a hall of residence is between €200 and €330 per month, depending on the facilities. The rooms are equipped with furniture. Bed linen, crockery and cutlery must be brought along or can be purchased from the department store. In addition, a deposit of €400 is payable, which will be refunded to you on your departure once the room has been returned in good condition.

Private accommodation
You can also look for accommodation on the private housing market. These apartments or rooms are often offered without furniture. The most popular are private shared apartments (WGs), for which several students look for a large apartment together in which everyone has their own room. The kitchen and bathroom are shared and the rent is split.

Please make sure you organize accommodation before you arrive in Clausthal!
You may otherwise have to stay in a hotel, vacation apartment or guesthouse for the first few days or weeks (see links). These accommodations are expensive and cause very high costs.
