Since January 2013, citizens have been subject to the broadcasting fee (formerly GEZ fee).
Anyone who stays in Germany for longer than three months and owns a radio and/or television set or an internet-enabled PC must register this and pay fees for the public radio and television program to the AZDBS (ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio Beitragsservice). A simple rule applies to the new financing model for public service broadcasting:
- One contribution must be paid per home - regardless of how many people live there and what broadcasting equipment they have.
- The new fee covers all services - there is no longer a distinction between radio, television and computer.
Registration and deregistration forms are available online (see links).
