Residence permit

As a university applicant, student, language student or pupil at a preparatory college, you will receive a residence permit for the purpose of education. The Foreigners' Registration Office in Goslar is responsible for students at Clausthal University of Technology. It decides on the granting of the residence permit. There is no legal entitlement to a residence permit.

Before issuing the residence permit, the authority checks whether the general requirements for issuing the permit have been met and whether there are any reasons that would prevent it from being issued. For example, they will also check whether you are able to support yourself (proof of sufficient financial means to cover your monthly needs). If you apply for an extension of your residence permit for the purpose of training, the foreigners authority must also check whether a further residence permit can be issued. Please note that the immigration authority will check your financial means again for this.

The residence permit allows you to work for a total of 120 days or 240 half days per year during your studies. As a student assistant, you may work at your university and other academic institutions without any time limit.
