IAESTE

The IAESTE program for internships abroad

Students of Clausthal University of Technology, of either Bachelor's or Master's degree programs, have the opportunity to complete an engineering-oriented internship within Europe or even worldwide as part of the IAESTE program.

IAESTE stands for International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience and is an internship program that currently offers internships in over 80 countries on 6 continents. Through this program, companies and institutes of higher education offer primarily technology- and engineering-oriented internships. They generally last 8 to 12 weeks, usually take place in the summer months and are paid so that local living costs can be covered.

If interns have any questions, local committees are available both at their home university and abroad. At Clausthal University of Technology (TUC), the International Center Clausthal (IZC) is the local committee for IAESTE internships – both for international students interning at TUC and for TUC students interning abroad.

You can find information about IAESTE and its structure in Germany here.

How to proceed

You can also find out more about the internship placement process here.

If you are interested in an IAESTE internship abroad, you must register on the IAESTE Exchange Platform in order to be able to apply for an internship. The following documents in English are required for registration:

- Curriculum vitae

- Certificate of enrollment (a copy can be downloaded in Stud.IP)

- Language certificate of your English language level (if applicable, other language certificates), not older than 2 years. If you do not have a valid certificate, you can take a DAAD language test at the Language Center of the IZC.

- Current Transcript of Records in English (please contact Markus Heidemann at the IZC - see column for contact details)

Once the documents are complete, your IAESTE account will be activated by the IZC as the local committee for TU Clausthal students.

Background

The IAESTE internship placement process is usually based on a one-year cycle. In particular, you should register between October and January 15 in order to be able to complete an IAESTE internship the following summer. During a national IAESTE Germany exchange conference in mid-February, the IZC will then attempt to "reserve" a suitable internship for you.

Once an internship has been "reserved" for you, the next step is to send a direct application to the potential internship provider via the Exchange Platform by March 10.

Even after this internship placement period in spring, new internships are always published on the Exchange Platform, so it advisable to register throughout the year.
